Kyrgyzstan

My name is Syinat Sultanalieva and I am a queer-feminist activist and researcher from Kyrgyzstan, currently enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Tsukuba, Japan. I have started my activist work in late 2007 as a staff member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender organization “Labrys” in Kyrgyzstan, having already earned an MA degree from the OSCE Academy in Bishkek in political science. At “Labrys” in different times I was directly responsible for overall grant management, project supervision, strategic planning, lobby and advocacy for human rights of LGBT persons on national (Kyrgyz government) and international (UN convention bodies) levels, public representation, media relations and strategic research, securing several recommendations from different UN bodies on sexual orientation and gender identity issues to the Kyrgyz Government (HRCtee 2014, UPR 2010, CEDAW 2008). Since then I have helped several other LBQ initiatives with their work, currently focusing on Kazakhstan Feminist Initiative “Feminita”, which is a feminist initiative of lesbian, bisexual and queer women.
